Tetrahydrocurcumin, a natural functional whitening ingredient, is hydrogenated from curcumin isolated from the rhizome of turmeric, a plant in the ginger family.

Product Application

Antioxidant effect: Curcumin has the effect of inhibiting lipid peroxidation, inhibiting cellular oxidation, modifying low-density lipoprotein and protecting DNA from lipid peroxidation damage. Curcumin is a unique antioxidant containing many functional groups. Curcumin plays an antioxidant role by increasing the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in cells, inhibiting the production of reactive oxygen species, and scavenging free radicals and peroxides. 

Anti-inflammatory effects: Curcumin has anti-inflammatory effects on acute, subacute and chronic inflammation. Curcumin can inhibit lipid peroxidation by reducing neutrophil infiltration and inhibit inflammatory response of colon cells by decreasing serine activity. Curcumin down-regulates levels of inflammatory cytokines, resistin and leptin in healthy, obese and diabetic individuals. Curcumin inhibits the survival and induces apoptosis of fibroblasts in the synovial fluid of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Curcumin can reduce the clinical symptoms of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and arthritis.

Laws and Regulations

On June 21, 2022, the European Commission issued Regulation (EU) 2022/961 authorizing the placing of tetrahydrocurcuminoids (Tetrahydrocurcuminoids) on the market in the European Union as novel foodstuffs in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 2015/2283 of the European Parliament and of the Council and amending Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470 Requirements for the use of novel foodstuffs in the Annex.
