Zebrafish Technical Advantages

The zebrafish (Danio rerio), native to India and Bangladesh, is an omnivorous tropical freshwater fish belonging to the Cypriniformes order, Cyprinidae family, and the genus Cyprinidae. Its genetic similarity with humans is as high as 87%, and its physiology, development, and metabolism are highly similar to those of mammals. It can reliably simulate and predict human physiological and pathological processes.

Zebrafish have a fast development rate, and their main tissues and organs have completed their development about 3 days after fertilization. They can start eating after about 5 days.

Compared with mammals, zebrafish has technological advantages such as high feeding density, low breeding cost, high experimental flux, less sample size required, easy and transparent observation in vivo, short experimental cycle, strong reproductive ability, and better compliance with animal welfare protection requirements. It is internationally recognized as a new model organism suitable for safety and efficacy evaluation.
